GeoVerse®188: How the Chicago Cubs Changed Music (1st Pop Song in Music History)

Mike “King” Kelly was one of the Cubs’ key player when the team, then called the White Stockings, dominated baseball, winning five championships in seven seasons. Known for his hook slide, Kelly launched many traditions and pastimes in his career. He was credited with being the largest crossover success of his day, achieving as much success on the stage and in publishing as he did on the playing field. Along the way he was the inspiration for the first pop song in music history: “Slide Kelly Slide.”
